After conducting a search for deemed universities in India, we conducted a small research to make a list of Deemed or private universities in India those offer engineering degrees and approved by UGC and their degrees are accepted for master degree in engineering by AICTE.
We only included private deemed universities and excluded all government run institutes and International Institute of Information Technology (IIITs). This list of taken from Ministry of HRD web site a government organization for education in India. The original list includes non-technical universities too. We extracted only private universities that offer bachelor degrees, master degrees, and/ or PhD degrees in Engineering domain.
These universities are ranked based on intellectual property (faculty and research contribution) and placements. We conducted a detailed research of each university and collected information about faculty members of popular and common engineering branches during January 2010. Based on simple statistical formula we made a list of Best or Top Deemed Universities in India.
For more details and rankings you can visit Top Engineering colleges in India or Top private Engineering colleges in India. We also made an exclusive ranking for NITs and also working for towards a list of Top engineering colleges for AIEEE.
The List of best Deemed universities for engineering according to Prof. Tondan’s report is as follows. Universities from 8 to 16 were recommended to improve to retain deemed university status whereas rest of the deemed universities apart from this list for engineering were black listed.

Any idea about Sastra (Thanjavur)? There’s info out there about how Sastra didn’t participate in some survey and how their VC has written letters to the MHRD about how unfair it was that they got low grades on governance etc. But recently, 8 universities have been bumped into the A list and Sastra is not to be found on any of these lists but is a deemed university. Many of these universities claim that they have improved in the number of PhD holders as faculty but what these fellows do is make all their Masters’ students register for PhD degrees and after 2-3 years, automatically give PhD degrees just like that. So after 2009’s survey, this would be a good time for a jump in the number of PhD-holding faculty. Is Sastra also in this category?

According to NAAC there are 44 universities that will get derecognized and 44 that have been given 3 years to improve themselves this information was published in Jan 2010. now in 2011 NAAC has re -accredited few of those universities like VIT ,SATYABHAMA, SHASTRA. i plan on joining BS Abdur Rahman Institute Of Science & Technology and i find it a bit frightening that they have not got re accredited like the colleges i mentioned above .
is this a bad omen about the college or will they get re accredited next year like VIT SATYABHAMA and SHASTRA?
can i join bs abdur rahman college i have heard very good things about the college from many of my peers is it taking a risk to join a university that has not got re accredited by NAAC .

Good job man but still it doesn’t give a comprehensive picture to a newbie trying to get into B.tech. program after 12th! I would say rather than a generic criteria for ranking, you should go specific to certain domain/discipline like for CSE these Univs. are ranked in this manner and so on..

Sachin: These rankings are based on Prof. Tandon committee report. The Deemed universities not listed here does not qualify to the level of deemed universities. They may be better than some private college but not at the standard of Deemed University.

Akil Raza: I checked VEL TECH, its not recommended by Tandon Committee. They mentioned it as not upto the level of deemed university, but supreme court held the decision till date. If you dont have other options and dont want to waste a year. You can join it but better plan for next good place too : )

SRM is currently ranked among top 5 private engineering universities along with BITS Pilani, VIT Vellore etc. Its a surprise that this university is missed out in this list.
Vineeth: Tondan Committee approve SRM and VIT status by saying that they need improvement. I dont know who ranked them 5. I will be posting the Ranking of the universities who were asked to improve along with their scores.

Ritoban: Jadavpur University is one of best universities in India for Engineering, definitely doing M.Tech from there is a matter of prestige.
these ranings are nice but every one says gitam(12) is better than vignan(5) in andhra pradesh. ask any one or see any rankings
Rohit: Though both the universities are good I ranked higher because of faculty qualification. Vignan have more PhDs than GITAM thats why its been ranked better. For example GITAM offer M.Tech program under electronics department where there is only one faculty with PhD is there and also write it offer PhD in all fields of engineering. May be GITAM created a hype as Amity created few years back.

why didnt u rank kiit,bbsr as it is considered as one of the top deemed univ in india.It has got world class infrastructure,has excellent faculties recruited from iits….and the best part is that it is most famous for its excellent placement….
Sumit: I agree Kiit and bbsr may be good institutes, but the institutes listed above have better faculties and infrastructure. Please give me links of faculty members and the ratio from IITs and PhD in KIIT and BBSR and help if they deserve a better place.
your rankings seem biased. vit vellore should belong to the top of the pvt university list. it is one of the top 10 colleges in india. no one needs to reiterate about its infrastructure, international relations, facilities and sheer no. of placements.
please do some research before putting down a ranking.
Anupam: really sorry I do agree with you, VIT may have good infrastructure but their website doesnt show the qualification of faculty members. All other universities listed here have a list of faculties with their profiles. And this list is made up with lot of time and effort and the bias part is not here because non of them stands close to IITs.
Moreover, I mailed them for information i m waiting for the reply.
How can u people disregard such a prestigious university.. by merely saying that, they haven’t given info about the faculty.. dear ADMIN please check for the FFCS login page.. you can even get the address of faculty’s door no. also…!! 🙂 … don’t put up such silly excuses again..!!

Viraj: Sorry for delayed answer, i m running too busy with office works these days.
Everything depends on the colleges you select after CET exam. I strongly believe that Karunya University is better than may colleges in Mumbai. And as for as salary is concern it ranges from 1.8~3.5 Lakhs for freshers from private universities. Once you get a break you can make it big.
It depends on your performance purely how much you will be paid in future.
Please feel free to ask any other thing you are confused with.

vellore institute of tech. shud get 2nd rank in deemed university category on the basis of infrastructure, faculty and education and placements…why is it not there?

I also consider it as a good university and ranked it among top engineering colleges in India long back.
The reason for not finding VIT is here is that there is no proper faculty information available on their web site. In faculty page there is no profile that at least indicate faculty qualification except a picture. I mailed them for more information as soon as I get the reply i will update it.
